Fire-stopping and protection of steel members

Share

Fire stopping is required around the installation of any structural steel member that is built into the party wall (e.g. beams, columns). It is important to note that steel members may not be carried across the party wall from one building into the next.

A timber runner should be secured to the steel work to act as a base for flooring material to be fixed to; the flooring material should not be directly fixed to the steel. Where steel members provide support to walls or floors, they must be protected from fire.
