P.1 General

The procedures recommended in this annex should be carried out in addition to the general procedures for commissioning and handover recommended in Clause 39.

P.2 Smoke ventilation systems

P.2.1 General

Checking Inlets for Systems:

Volume Flow (Mechanical Systems): Ensure it meets design criteria.
Quantities, Size, and Location (Natural Systems): Verify compliance with design specifications.
Security Doors or Mesh Shutters:
- Opening Doors: May reduce the effective inlet area.
- Assessment: Evaluate the free area and apply a correction factor for any reduced inlet area due to security measures.

P.22 Powered smoke and heat exhaust system

Volume Extract Rate Measurement:

a) Measurement Conditions: Conduct at ambient conditions.

b) Extract Rate Verification: Ensure it meets the required rate for the design fire.

c) Measurement Methods:

· Vane Anemometer: Measure at each extract grille and total the readings.

· Pitot Traverse: Measure in a straight section of ductwork (approx. 4 m from obstructions) and total the results.

d) Standby Generators:

· Operation Check: Verify correct operation.

· Load Test: Ensure generators power all emergency systems to handle full emergency load.

P.2.3 Natural smoke ventilation systems

a) Measure Ventilator Areas: Record the dimensions of the ventilators.

b) Check Test Certificates: Obtain aerodynamic coefficient certificates for the ventilators.

c) Compare with Design: Ensure areas and coefficients match the approved design requirements.

NOTE This can be done by measuring a sample of each ventilator size and calculating the measured area by totalling the numbers of vents.

P.3 Smoke control systems employing pressure differentials

The commissioning and handover procedures for smoke control systems employing pressure differentials should be in accordance with BS EN 12101-6:2005.
