9.1 Commentary

Fire protection systems can use any system category defined in 5.1 to trigger safety facilities for life safety, property protection, or both. Special requirements might apply for detector placement, power supplies, control, and wiring. Ensure that integrating other systems with the fire detection and alarm system does not compromise its reliability.

9.2 Recommendations

Recommendations for Systems Actuating Other Fire Protection Systems or Safety Facilities:

a) Conformance:

The system should conform to applicable parts of BS 7273.

b) Special Requirements:

If BS 7273 is not applicable, identify special design requirements in the purchase specification or design proposals.

c) Routine Testing:

Provide means to disable automatic actuation if routine testing affects other systems or equipment.
Disablement facility and its indication should conform to BS EN 54-2.

d) Power Consumption:

Other equipment or systems should not draw power from the fire detection and alarm system in the non-fire state, except for indicators and interface devices (e.g., relays).
Consider the power consumption of indicators and interface devices in the battery capacity calculation. (see 25.4).
