Grants and Eligible Upgrades 2023

The Scottish Government’s Warmer Homes Scotland programme offers funding and support to households struggling to stay warm and keep on top of energy bills. The programme is accessed by contacting Home Energy Scotland, who will check what support is available. If your household is eligible, they will then make a referral to Warmworks. Warmworks is the managing agent for Warmer Homes Scotland.

Home Energy Scotland Loan

Home Energy Scotland Loan

Home Energy Scotland delivers the loan and cashback schemes of behalf of the Scottish Government. Loans are available to owner occupiers who live in their properties and to self-builders for both energy efficiency measures and renewables measures, and attract up to 40% and 75% respectively, dependent on the measures being installed. Cashback is based on total cost and capped at a maximum value.


 Support is available for the following measures: 

 -  Energy efficiency loan for: solid wall insulation, warm air/electric storage heatings, gas connection, insulated doors, room-in-roof insulation/flat roof insulation and loft/floor/cavity wall insulation 


- renewables loan for:  wind/hydro turbines, solar photovoltaic (PV, water heating systems, heat pumps (various) and biomass boilers/stoves

- Max funding for energy efficiency measures is £15,000 (including a maximum cashback amount of £6,000). 


- You can apply for up to two home renewables systems per home up to £17,500 in total, plus an energy storage system up to a maximum of £6,000. This can include up to £11,750 cashback funding (including a £500 incentive for installation of a heat meter alongside a heat pump). 


- Cashback is subject to availability while funds last or until the end of the financial year – whichever comes first. Funds are reserved for customers when their loan is offered.

Warm Homes Scotland

Warm Home Scotland

Designed to help people make their homes warmer and more comfortable by installing a range of energy saving improvements. 


Applicable to homeowners and private sector tenants who are struggling to heat their home, have lived in their home for at least 12 months, & will meet the eligibility criteria. 


In most cases all costs will be covered by the Scottish Government. 


Note that funding cannot be accessed for work that's already been carried out. All home improvements funded by Warmer Homes Scotland must be managed by the approved installer.

 - Solid wall insulation: up to £10,000 (£6,000 loan plus £4,000 cashback) 

- Gas heating system: up to £5,000 (no cashback available) 

- Heating system (warm air units or high heat retention electric storage heaters): up to £5,000 (£4,600 loan plus £400 cashback)

- Gas connection: up to £5,000 (no cashback available) 

- Glazing: up to £4,500 (£4,100 loan plus £400 cashback) 

- Insulated doors: up to £4,500 (no cashback available) 

- Flat roof or room-in-roof insulation: up to £4,000 (£2,400 loan plus £1,600 cashback) 

- Loft, floor or cavity wall insulation: up to £1,000 (£600 loan plus £400 cashback)"

Home Charge Point Grant

Home Charge Point Grant
To help you get around in your electric vehicle, a grant is available towards the cost of a home charge point from Energy Saving Trust.

This is in addition to the £350 available through the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).

With a home charge point, you can charge overnight in your driveway, when electricity is cheapest, for further cost savings.
Eligible to those who:

- Live in the most remote and rural postcodes of Scotland (category 5,6, 7 and 8 of the Scottish Government’s most recent Urban Rural Classification) or the Scottish Islands and who own or lease an electric vehicle, or
- those who use an electric vehicle through work; or
- Who have been approved for the Used Electric Vehicle Loan.

Single grant is up to £300 & a grant offer letter must be issued by Energy Saving Trust before the chargepoint installation works occur.

Electric Vehicle Loan

Electric Vehicle Loan
Electric vehicles are an increasingly attractive option for drivers thanks to their lower running costs, environmental benefits, and ever-improving range of models. Pure electric vehicles eligible for the loan have an average range of over 150 miles, with many models able to go much further on a single charge. Plus, charging has never been easier; with over 1,500 publicly available chargers in Scotland.
Loan details:

- Repayable max 5 years.
- Up to £30,000 to cover the cost of purchasing a used electric car or van,
- or up to £5,000 for the purchase of a used electric motorcycle or moped.
- Vehicles with a list price over the relevant cap are not eligible.

eBike Loan

eBike Loan
You can now borrow up to £6,000 interest-free towards the cost of ebikes or adapted cycles, thanks to funding from Transport Scotland (an agency of the Scottish Government).

eBikes are becoming more and more popular as a means of getting from A to B quickly and efficiently. They’re perfect for tackling longer journeys or steep hills, and they’re also great when you need an extra boost of energy to get you where you want to go.

Adapted and electric cycles can also help people increase their mobility whilst improving health and wellbeing.
Your can buy:
- 2 x ebikes capped at £3,000 each
- 1 x family cargo capped at £6,000
- 1 x adapted cycle or electric adapted cycle
- Besides initial deposit, any other payment towards the purchase before receiving a formal loan offer must not be made.

Loans are on a First-come-first-served basis & is subject to availability. Applicants are subject to affordability assessments and credit checks.
